The present studio building replaces a 16th-century artisan’s house. Although the new structure adopts the lines of the former building, it assumes a wholly modern stance, setting a striking new note in the urban context. The dark-grey external rendering is contrasted with a white interior that is flooded with light. Laid out on two storeys with an overall area of roughly 75 m2, the house accommodates a sculptor’s studio on the upper floor, where the red-painted wood cladding to the sanitary areas forms a bold contrast to the white interior. On the ground floor are a small exhibition space and a larger room that can be used for various activities or as a flat for guests. Situated next to the entrance, the exhibition space extends over two storeys to the underside of the roof and is open to public view by virtue of a showcase window wrapped round the corner of the building. In this way, links are created between the two levels of the house and between inside and outside.
