When the old building of the state brewery at Weihenstephan, which dates back to the year 1905, proved too small to cope with the fast increasing numbers of students and its structural potential offered no scope for an extension of the building nor for the accommodation of modern teaching- and research facilities, the issue was solved with the new building. The steel hall not only satisfies the functional and technological requirements of a combined utilization, adaptability of the services and visualization of the demonstration facilities, but also exhibits an appealing transition from the steelglass industrial construction to the Art Nouveau masonry architecture of the old building.
