Our perception of the built environment is largely determined by volumes and surfaces in combination with the materials used. Rendered facades, therefore, have a special significance. The main aspects determining the use of rendering are the composition of the material, the method of applying it, its coloration and surface texture. Rendering can be left in its natural state or created in a wide range of colour tones – either applied as a final coat of paint or incorporated in the material in the form of pigments. Like internal plaster, rendering consists of one?or more layers of a mortar mix or coating material and can be of various thicknesses.
