Human beings come to appreciate the true value of natural light after they have been enclosed for some time in a room without windows. Even the most carefully planned artificial lighting is no substitute for daylight. One misses the variations in lighting intensity and coloration, factors that stimulate the human organism, that help to create a sense of well-being and that ­increase creativity and efficiency.  The costs of daylight planning, therefore, are a sound investment.
