Technology: Transparency in Wood – Glued Wood-Glass Facades

Architects place value on transparent facades and windows with slender profiles. They expect it to be easy to design and install, and to have high energy efficiency. Structural glazing employing aluminium fulfils these requirements to a great degree and has been in use for many years.

Assemblies employing wood, on the other hand, are new. This year, in Germany the DIBt granted approval for wood-glass facade modules with dimensions of up to 2.5 by 3.5 metres. In addition, the assembly may also be used in glazed safety railing. (Ulrich Sieberath, Karin Lieb, Jürgen Benitz-Wildenburg)
