Temporary Installation in the Monastery Courtyard of Girona

Objects resembling hammocks or magic carpets invite visitors to this former monastery courtyard in Catalonia to escape the turbulence of city life into a garden of the senses. The timber structures are suspended at various heights over herb beds. The glazing that closes off the cloisters on three sides is decorated with quotations from Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities”. From hidden solar microphones come the sounds of cicadas and crickets. The main aims of the installation are to create an oasis in the historic city centre and a symbiosis of landscape and architecture. Everyday, moderately priced materials were used for this temporary project, with simple wooden blinds attached to bent steel frames.
