The New London Docks in Wapping consisted of a rectangular dock with storage warehouses or »stacks« on the north and south quays and a large tobacco warehouse forming the link between the two. What is unique about Tobacco Dock is the design of the internal structure and the roof an early example of a prefabricated system with standardized elements. The building has six bays, each with a span of over 16 m and a clear height of 3,80 m - a vast open space articulated by a forest of columns.
