Situated on a broad stone slab at the entrance to the town, the museum's wide, dominating roof spans a composition of simple volumes enclosing the exhibition hall like a forum. The flexible exhibition space can house both the permanent and temporary collections. Slim, composite steel and reinforced concrete columns support the steel roof grid. The cores, shear walls and floor slabs are of reinforced concrete. A filigree stair with solid oak steps on bent steel sheet leads up to the suspended steel gallery. Flooring in the exhibition hall and on the gallery is also wood. All exposed steel is painted white.
