Together with the geometry of the Charlottenburg Castle, the Schinkel-pavilion and the castle bridge, the arch described by the curved wall of the competition design for this block of flats composes a striking signet into the city plan. One of the elements promoting this signet-quality is the emergence of a pure fine from the heterogeneous building ensemble located opposite the castle, and its continuation on Schinkel's principle on the relationship of orthogonal axes; the other element is the cross-shaped structure situated on the river's edge, the lower section of which responds in height to the built surround for a smoother integration into the existing fabric of the city.
