"During my engineering studies, it soon became apparent that this was not sufficient in itself, especially if one wished to bear responsibility in building, because (as an engineer) one plays a subordinate role as a service provider. If I want to be involved in the creative process, in the design of the built environment, it is absolutely essential to know all about the content of the related discipline and the language of those who will subsequently be partners in the planning process. If I don’t acquaint myself with these things during my studies, I will have a hard time in my first years of professional practice; and for many colleagues that’s a situation that continues throughout their lives."
