In order to spend the holidays and weekends in their home country, the clients – a family with two children, living in Nancy – desired a simple house in the Vosges mountains. Point of origin of the design was to use natural materials such as timber and straw, thereby minimising the energy required for creating the building. Further, the footprint of the house was supposed to impact the surrounding environment to the smallest possible degree. For this purpose, it is slightly raised above grade by twelve granite blocks.
