Clad almost seamlessly with perforated stainless-steel panels, this house in Vorarlberg, Austria, has a largely closed street front. Beneath the outer metal skin is a waterproof layer of coated polyester sheeting. On the roof, an additional layer of open boarding beneath the polyester matting reduces the noise of heavy rain. From the entrance, a flight of stairs leads down to the kitchen-cum-living room, where broad full-height glazing opens the space to the garden. Both living levels are distinguished by exposed concrete walls and soffits, the cool surfaces of which are contrasted with the wood casements. In the attic storey, the walls and roof are constructed in wood with a poplar-veneer finish.
