The present structure, situated near Barcelona, was formed by linking two adjoining houses. One of the two buildings was not affected by the conversion. It contains the kitchen, dining room, a number of living spaces and the staircase. The link to the second house was created simply of breaking through the existing wall and providing access to an extensive, two-storey library with a peripheral gallery. Travelling stairs afford access to the bookshelves on the upper floor and to a bedroom at this level. The rooms were painted in various shades of white to catch the light. The effect is accentuated by the contrasting floors and furnishings in woods of different colour. The outer skin was redesigned and consists of vertically cored bricks laid on edge without rendering. The lively juxtaposition of brickwork and areas of mortar serves to unite the various elements of the house.
