The architectural and design office Blocher Blocher Partners created a DGNB Gold certified office building for its 130 employees on the outskirts of Stuttgart’s city centre. Both the external walls and the roof consist of exposed concrete with cavity insulation. In the interiors, wall and floor coverings were also largely avoided, with acoustic panels in the partition walls serving to reduce reverberation times. With a primary energy demand of 113 kWh/m2a, the new-build undercuts the German legal requirement by 30?%. Two reversible geothermal heat pumps provide heating and cooling, which is distributed to the spaces via a TABS system and convectors. Offices and corridors are lit exclusively by LED lighting.
