Scarcely 15 years ago, only six million passengers a year passed through Mumbai Airport. The newly completed terminal can handle a volume of 40 million people, putting the airport on a par with those of London, New York and Shanghai.
By integrating architecture and engineering in their design, SOM have found a homogeneous and elegant response to the tight constraints of the brief. With maximum dimensions of 330 m in width and 260 m in length and with a height of 40 m, the roof structure was conceived as a breathtaking monument that can be viewed from the air on arrival and departure.
