Technology: Roof Terraces and Balconies - Details, Sealing, Construction

In view of the host of sometimes contradictory technical rules, regulations, standards and systems that exist, it is not surprising that planners are often uncertain about the appropriate form of construction to use for balconies and terraces. At the design stage, too little attention is paid to the construction of these elements, with the result that throughout the rest of the scheme, every inch counts and one is constantly struggling not to exceed maximum approved building heights. The following factors should, therefore, be taken into account in the early stages of planning. (Jens Drefahl)
